Garages
Garages are provided for the tenants, although the waiting
list is open to anyone. However, tenants with clear rent accounts
will be given priority over non-tenants when allocating the
vacancies.
Who is eligible to apply for a garage?
Garages are provided for the tenants; however, anyone is eligible
to register on the garage waiting and transfer list.
However, priority is given to tenants (as long as their
rent account is clear or in credit).
Where are the garages?
We have garages located around the Purbeck district. A full
list of garage sites is included in the leaflet; Applying for the
licence of a garage.
How much does the Trust charge for a
garage?
The weekly charge for a garage is £6.95 for a
tenant.
However, non-tenants will also have to pay VAT. Non-tenants will
therefore be charged a total of £7.99 per week.
Rent is charged over a 48-week year to allow for four rent free
weeks.
How are garages allocated?
When a garage becomes vacant the Customer Services
Team will check the waiting and transfer list for the area
where the vacancy has occurred. They will look for tenants on the
list and check their rent accounts.
If there are no tenants waiting, the Customer
Services Assistant will look for non-tenants waiting for that
area. Once the next applicant has been identified, an offer letter
will be sent to them. The letter will detail the garage address and
the weekly charges. The applicant will then be given seven days to
accept or refuse the garage offer. (If the offer is refused, they
will remain on the list unless they wish their details to be
removed.) If no reply is received within seven days, the
applicant’s details are deleted from the list and the next eligible
applicant will be offered the garage.
Change of details/address
Please remember to notify the us if your name, address or any
requirements change, so that we may update your application.
How do I apply?
You can download an application form from
this page. Alternatively, you can collect one from reception;
contact the Customer Services Team on 01929 558400; or
e-mail: info@purbeckhousing.co.uk,
who will be happy to send one to you.
Vacation of garages
If you wish to terminate the licence of a garage you must give us
one week’s notice in writing to end on a Monday. The garage must be
emptied of all items. You will be charged the cost of removal of
anything left in the garage. You will be told at the time of the
termination how much rent you will have to pay.
The keys must be returned to Prospect House at the end of the
week’s notice. If you fail to do so we will carry on charging you
rent. For further information regarding garages, see our Garage
leaflet.
