Homeless Application FAQs
If you or someone in your household is homeless or about to
become homeless, Purbeck Housing Trust is here to try and help
you.
I am threatened with homelessness and need urgent assistance.
What can I do?
You may be eligible for help if you are likely to become
homeless within the next 28 days. For example, you have received a
notice to quit or have been asked to leave by a member of your
family.
For further information please telephone 01929
558400 and ask to speak to a Housing Needs Officer.
I am homeless following an emergency. Who should I
contact?
If you are homeless as a result of an
emergency such as a fire, flood, or similar disaster, or have been
asked to leave your accommodation immediately, the Trust would
normally be able to arrange temporary accommodation whilst your
case is investigated.
If your emergency occurs outside of normal office
hours, please ring the Out of Hours service on
01929 558455.
What sort of help can I expect?
The Trust will give advice and assistance to
all homeless people. However, if you are in priority need the Trust
will find you temporary accommodation as soon as you become
homeless and while we investigate your case.
Am I in priority need?
You are in priority need if:
- You are (or your partner is) pregnant (proof will be
required)
- You have dependent children
- You are aged 16 or 17
- You are (or someone living with you is) vulnerable because of
age, physical or mental disability or handicap
- You are vulnerable because you have been in care, the services
or prison
- You are fleeing violence or are homeless because of an
emergency, such as a fire or flood
What happens next?
Once you have approached the Trust concerning your situation an
interview will be arranged with a Housing Needs Officer. You should
bring any documents which may be relevant. The Trust will then
decide:
- If you are homeless or threatened with homelessness
- If you have a priority need for accommodation
- If your homelessness is intentional
- If you have a local connection with Purbeck
The Trust will then reach a decision on what can be done to help
you. When a decision is made, you will be informed in writing.
