Domestic Violence
Domestic violence is a serious, widespread problem; it is often
hidden in the family. Domestic violence is extremely
under-reported. Victims of domestic violence should be encouraged
to report the incident to the local police. Some will never make a
complaint to the police at all.
I want to leave my home due to violence
You may feel you need to leave your home due to violence. It may
be possible for you to stay in your home. There are different steps
you can take depending upon your own wishes and situation. In the
first instance you should speak to a Housing Needs Officer,
Solicitor or a professional with experience of domestic
violence.
Where can I go?
If you decide that you want to leave your home the options
listed below are available to you:
- Stay with family or friends
- Go to a refuge with your children. Staff are fully trained to
help you with housing, financial issues and can provide you with
counselling.
- The Trust can help you when you are fleeing domestic
violence
- Contact the Police in an emergency

The National Women’s Aid 24 hour helpline – 0808 2000
247 –provides support, information and a listening ear to
women experiencing domestic violence. They can also help you find
emergency accommodation.
