The Telecare Service helps protect people and property with the additional benefit of providing peace of mind. Purbeck Careline is working in partnership with Dorset County Council to promote and provide Telecare packages across the county.
Many people want to stay in their own homes for as long as possible, Telecare can be used to help most people achieve and sustain independence and self confidence when used in conjunction with a range of other services and family/community support.
As a well as helping people Telecare has the additional benefit of helping to protect property. isolated properties, buildings, holiday homes and offices can all benefit from having a monitored smoke and flood detector
What Exactly is Telecare?
Telecare is a Lifeline unit with a range of different peripherals programmed to it. The selection of peripherals is now quite varied and includes such items as:-
- Smoke detectors
- Flood detectors
- Fall detector
- Heat Sensors
How Does it Work?
When the peripheral senses either gas or water for example, it sends a radio signal to the Lifeline unit which then automatically dials the Careline to alert the staff of a potential problem. The Operator is able to speak to you and summon the appropriate assistance.
What are the Benefits?
Evidence illustrates that re-designing services around a central telecare package can produce a combination of effects.
- Improved independence, security, confidence and quality of life for service users
- Vulnerable people are able to stay longer in their own homes where they prefer to be
- Relatives and carers have reduced anxiety and stress about the safety and independence of their loved one.
- "Telecare enabled" services cost less to deliver and delay the requirement for the more expensive "next level" of care, thereby producing significant savings across the whole health and social care continuum.
"Evidence indicates that telecare can bring substantial benefits in providing people with greater choice over their care, assisting people to remain in their homes, reducing inappropriate admissions, facilitating discharge from hospital, and providing advance warning of deterioration in a patient's condition"
